Gentle parenting sounds good on paper, but in reality, itās turning into permissive chaos. Parents are acting like peers instead of authority figures, and the results are everywhere: kids with no discipline, no respect, and no resilience. Classrooms are out of control, teachers are burned out, and parents are walking on eggshells in their own homes.
This trend teaches parents not to punish, not to say no, and to negotiate every decision. But when kids never hear the word āno,ā they never learn self-control. When every emotion is validated, even the wrong ones, they stop learning right from wrong. Gentle parenting focuses on feelings instead of character, and the outcome is a generation that canāt handle correction, frustration, or responsibility.
Children need to learn to obey first and talk later. They need to know that actions have consequences. Two-hour negotiations are not discipline, and āredirectionā is not accountability. Consequences arenāt cruel; they are how kids learn cause and effect. Small painful lessons now prevent bigger painful lessons later, like job loss, divorce, or even jail.
Today, too many households are run by kids throwing tantrums while parents tiptoe around them. āBecause I said soā has been replaced by endless emotional processing. But not every feeling deserves validation. Kids need grit, gratitude, and guidance, not comfort, coddling, and constant affirmation.
Gentle parenting often becomes emotional manipulation. It ignores misbehavior, avoids hard truths, and hides weak leadership under the label of empathy. The result is children who canāt take correction, disrespect authority, and fall apart when life gets tough.
We need to bring back parenting that builds character. Love means saying no. Respect means boundaries. Discipline means preparation for real life.
